The main reason why George Curry decided to buy the 9ft Maxifloat is because it’s offset. The Northumberland farmer’s old topper ran directly behind the tractor. “But with this new one being off to the side, it means we’re not trampling over the stuff we’re trying to cut,” he adds.
Having used it for two seasons, topping about 200 acres per year, he describes it as a “good, strong and simple machine”.
Each topper flail is specially engineered, shaped with hardened steel, cranked and free-swinging to minimise damage from concealed objects while maintaining a high-quality finish.
bbin体育“It does a very good job,” George adds. “We mostly use it for cutting thistles on pasture land and topping seeded grass. It’s ideal for both.”
George runs West Newbiggin near Berwick-upon-Tweed with his wife Keren. It’s a mixed unit with about three-quarters of its 1,200 acres given over to arable crops.
